Perinatal, Infant & Child Wānanga Education Day

Join the Central Lakes Family Services Perinatal, Infant and Child (PICS) Team for their upcoming Wānanga Education Day. The PICS Team are proud to be hosting sector experts and local leaders to build knowledge, share experiences, make great connections and celebrate what it is to work with new and expanding whānau in rural New Zealand. 

Location – 10 Douglas St, Frankton. St John’s Community Rooms. 

This is a one-day wānanga for those working with, alongside perinatal/postnatal people, infants or whānau, but this is open to anyone in the wider sector. While it is intended for a professional audience, we believe that if this learning could benefit the community you work with, we want you here so please register regardless but be aware that some topics may be sensitive, advanced or require a level of previous experience. 

Our main speaker Liora Noy joins us originally from Mexico but has lived in many places around the world before coming to Aotearoa 13 years ago. She is a registered nurse (obstetrics) and Lactation Consultant, with 25 years’ experience working with whānau. A mother of three, who experienced severe postnatal depression with one of her children, a path that fostered her passion for this subject. She was a PND peer supporter for many years and the PADA educator for 5 years. She has graduate degrees in Public Health and Psychology,

Liora will be sharing on the following topics:

  • Perinatal Distress – how do we recognise it and what can we do to support parents affected
  • Matresence compared to Post Natal Depression
  • Perinatal OCD
  • Circle of Security

Our PICS Team is made up of Lisa Gear (Perinatal Nurse Specialist RN/MHsc), Emma Hughson (Registered Nurse), Rachel McDonald (Support Worker, Hypnobirthing & Mindfulness Coach), Derrin Thomas (Community Support Worker) and Marika Steel (Family Support Case Worker).

The PICS Team will be sharing on their model of support for clients and the new & expanding whānau. They will also be sharing Case Studies and learnings from their experiences growing a Perinatal, Infant & Child service in a rural community. 

Alex Weehuizen is a doula, mother, and teacher with a passion for nurturing child development with attuned care and supporting families through their transition to parenthood. She will be speaking on supporting whānau make the transitions into parenthood. 

Salvation Army SPACE Programes Facilitators will be speaking about SPACE, what current themes and trends they see in their services supporting whānau in the Whakatipu. 

We will also be joined by WellSouth HIPs, who will share on being a first point of contact for whānau, early intervention, behavior change and their model of support through GP practices.
